Ghostbuster 3! (probably)

"3 times the fun!" better not be the tagline!

Dan Aykroyd was a guest on Denis Miller Radio hosted by….that’s right Dennis Miller. (I’ll wager he called someone a ninnyhammer, or told them to go bescumber) Aykroyd spoke candidly on the prospect of Ghostbuster’s 3 and seemed pretty possitive.

“Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray,” he says, “That is our hope. We have an excellent script. What we have to remember is that ‘Ghostbusters’ is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way, as was the director and Harold [Ramis], myself and Sigourney [Weaver]. The concept is much larger than any individual role and the promise of ‘Ghostbusters 3’ is that we get to hand the equipment and the franchise down to new blood.

“My character, Ray, is now blind in one eye and can’t drive the cadillac,” he says, “He’s got a bad knee and can’t carry the packs… Egon is too large to get into the harness. We need young blood and that’s the promise. We’re gonna hand it to a new generation.”

Ok what I found most offensive is NO mention of Ernie Hudson (Winston) Now first I always took issue with the fact that he didn’t appear in the courtroom scene in Ghostbuster’s 2.  Was he being tried separately?  Was he a key witness to the prosecution?  Did they forget he was a Ghostbuster, was it a race thing?  This is NEVER addressed in the movie, and now this bullshit?

Secondly, will this film be any good?  It’ll be ok but really does anyone want to see Jonah Hill, Seth Rogan, and Michael Cera (assuming) fighting Ghosts?  Not I!  Nostalgia is a funny thing, much like that party you went to ten years ago that you and all your friends still talk about!

You can relive it by telling all the old stories or looking at pictures because memories of awesome things are just that, memories.   Just like you can re-watch Ghostbuster or quote the lines and love it all over again.  The thing is you can never throw that same party years later and expect it to be just as good because too many things have changed, the people, the places, the way you perceive things personally.  The world is a different place now..ya dig? So this movie might be fun, but I am fairly certain will never be anything close to the original, but I guess that’s not the point.  Least we forget the sole motivation of all parties involved (Actors, Director, Studio) is to make MONEY.  This project will indeed make money, but everything after that is inconsequential.  I believe that Bill Murry, much like myself isn’t interested in this project because he’s moved on.  That time in his life is done and to trying and recapture it seems pointless.
