FEAR ITSELF #5
Ok let’s recap, Red Skull’s daughter found a magic hammer transforming her into Skadi, the world serpents herald. She then broke the world serpent of his prison at the bottom of the Marianas Trench. Eight magic hammers have since been fallen from the sky and choosing the worthy. Some of which have been the Hulk, Juggernaut, and the Thing. The hammers then transform them into avatars of chaos, instilling fear in the people of the world to restore the serpent to his prime and making him a much stronger adversary to Odin. Odin since has withdrawn all the Asgardians from Earth back into Asgard space, beginning preparations to burn Earth in order to kill the serpent.
The beginning of this issue rocks, especially when you have the fresh art of Stuart Immonen. Thor faces off against the Thing and the Hulk, and beats the shit outta them…. Awesome! The Thing lands near the Baxter building and Franklin Richards uses his powers to siphon off the hammers being from him. I didn’t know that Franklin could do that, but it looks like now they found their key to stopping the worthy.
I just love how so many heroes are used in this book, I know some people don’t care for crossovers but I do, so eat a fart! Oh and did I mention Sin killed Bucky? Yeah she beat the shit crap outta him leaving a nasty deadly wound all around his chest. Also we finally get to see Steve Rogers back in the suit again and not just as director of shield (Thumbs Up!)
As the world serpent descends upon the city the Avengers assemble but to no avail, Cap throws his shield at him and he snaps it in half. Wait, I thought you couldn’t break vibranium, oh well (Ted voice) he is a god. Things are looking grim for everybody as Cap tells the team they’re not gonna win this. I honestly can’t wait to see how this ends I have no idea what’s going to happen. This book gives you a look further into Norse mythology and what would happen if the world serpent came to be and walked the earth. Although I do know Thor is suppose to defeat the serpent while killing himself in the process, I don’t see Thor dying as an option. If you’re a big fan of Thor (which I am) and the Avengers, then this book will make your socks go up and down! It was well written and has been since the beginning, a fresh new idea, and it kept me hanging on the edge of my seat. That’s what sucks about once a month books, you have to play the old waiting game. 4 outta 5.
